The plan had been to just make a center console to take care of the additional gauges (oil temp and pressure, water temp) and to fit around the 6 speed. The space available is fairly narrow and I had a general idea of what I wanted. While looking at some pictures of manual cars to get some ideas on what I wanted the finished product to look like, I saw a few 98-02 Camaros and thought it might just work. Found one locally and started checking fitment. Not bad! I’ve got some little things to figure out as far as getting the sides to fit closer to the floor/carpet. I need to build a box for the gauges to fit in right under the dash. Have a little cleaning to do on the used console. If a better one comes along in the future I’ll replace this one. Its been pretty abused in its life. I’m pretty happy with the results! I’m also sure it will look a lot better than anything I would have made.
Since I did all this work, I found another 1967 El Camino that used this console. So I wasn’t the first to do it, but I’m very happy with the outcome!
More on this later as I continue to work on the interior.
